…but totally stalking b.j. novak

Okay, I refrained from stalking Jason Segel at BEA. As a major fan of Freaks and Geeks and How I Met Your Mother, of course I can’t wait for our paths to cross. But I will have patience. No doubt we will meet one day.

Those of you who know anything about me know that The Office is my show. I’ve binged watched those eps so many times I can’t even tell you. My collection of Office paraphernalia is huge. And The Office is the only show that has its own tag here on my blog.

So was I stoked to meet B.J. Novak at BEA when he was signing his new children’s book, The Book With No Pictures?

Susane Colasanti and B.J. Novak, BEA 2014

Dude. There are no words.

When it comes to my fave people in the world, I am not above using perks. Fortunately B.J. and I have the same publisher. I was allowed to go behind the table to document with him. Which, by the way, did you notice how he’s all snuggled up against me? How cute is that?

BEA has now been elevated to a whole new level of awesome.

Going to BookCon at BEA tomorrow? I’ll be signing at the Penguin Truck at 11:30am 🙂

not stalking jason segel

As a hardcore How I Met Your Mother fan, I was thrilled to discover that both Jason Segel and Neil Patrick Harris will be at BEA this year. I will try not to stalk Jason Segel. But I won’t try too hard. Because like, what, I’m not supposed to stalk Jason Segel? How does that make sense?

Jason Segel

Good thing I’m signing this Saturday. That will sort of keep me in professional mode. Those of you at BEA can find me here:

Now and Forever came out last week. Like all book release weeks, it was a whirlwind of excitement and adventure and a crazy schedule. One of the highlights was definitely my launch party. The party was at this cute gift shop in the West Village called KADOnyc. The owner, Rick, was so sweet about everything. He even set up this cute yellow bench where everyone sat next to me while I signed their book. How cute was that? And how cute was my friend Careen for being just as excited about the cute yellow bench as I was?

Along with more good friends, some literary rock stars were in the house. You know you’re grown and sexy when David Levithan asks you to sign a book.

And of course there was cake. A major incentive for writing eight books? Was so I could have this cake:

all i need in paperback

“Captures the rush of teen love and lust.” Boston Herald on All I Need, out in paperback today!

All I Need by Susane Colasanti

There’s nothing like starting the summer off with a sparkly, romantic beach read. That was my goal in writing this story of Skye and Seth:

*

Skye wants to meet the boy who will change her life forever. Seth feels their instant connection the second he sees her. When Seth starts talking to Skye at the last beach party of the summer, it’s obvious to both of them that this is something real. But when Seth leaves for college before they exchange contact info, Skye wonders if he felt the same way she did—and if she will ever see him again. Even if they find their way back to each other, can they make a long-distance relationship work despite trust issues, ex drama, and some serious background differences?

Teen favorite Susane Colasanti returns to the alternating-voice style of her beloved debut When It Happens in this Serendipity-inspired story about summer, soul mates, and the moments that change our lives forever.

now and forever playlist

Now and Forever is about the girlfriend of the world’s biggest rock star.

Of course there’s a playlist. Listen on Spotify and get the overview here:

1. “Everything” – Lifehouse

This is the song Sterling sends to Ethan in the first chapter of Now and Forever. She’s had that song on repeat every since the day Ethan first asked her out. To Sterling, “Everything” is Ethan’s theme song. It sounds like him. It feels like him. She loves losing herself in the sound of him. Sterling is so deep in the love haze she can’t remember what she used to think about before Ethan.

2. “An Alright Start” – Sigur Ros

Ethan responds to “Everything” by playing “An Alright Start” for Sterling. Sigur Ros is an Icelandic group with an ambient, post-rock sound. Ethan tells Sterling that their music is beautiful, just like her. “I don’t have the words to tell you how I feel about you,” he says. “So I found a song in another language to do it for me.” “An Alright Start” is about two people falling in love. They spend the day together just walking around downtown and and enjoying being in their own world where they understand each other better than anyone ever has before.

3. “Bright Lights” – 30 Seconds To Mars

Ethan Cross has the most hardcore fangirls in the world. They worship him as the god of their musical religion. The sound of “Bright Lights” captures the thrilling rush of musician worship. It speaks to every single one of us with big dreams that will never die. Ethan Cross always knew he was destined for insane fame. His laser focus burns brighter than ever.

4. “Say Anything” – Good Charlotte

5. “Echo” – Jason Walker

6. “Happy” – Pharrell Williams

“Happy” captures the pure elation Sterling feels the first time she hears one of Ethan’s songs on the radio. That moment where you realize one of your biggest dreams just came true.

7. “Mirrors” – Justin Timberlake

You reflect me, I love that about you
And if I could, I would look at us all the time

8. “Get Low” – Dillon Francis & DJ Snake

There’s something about how the beat of “Get Low” builds to a crescendo that reminds me of waiting for concerts to start as a teen. I’d be in the audience with my friends shaking with anticipation. Adrenaline zinged through my veins so sharply I couldn’t sit still. That moment when the lights went low, when the first screams cut across the stadium as whoever you were there to see took the stage, was electric. “Get Low” has that same electric quality.

9. “Talking Backwards” – Real Estate

The only thing that really matters
is the one thing I can’t say to you

10. “In Your Eyes” – Peter Gabriel

The first sentence of Now and Forever says it all: “When I open my front door, Ethan is holding his phone over his head playing ‘In Your Eyes.’”

11. “Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough” – Michael Jackson

One of Ethan’s main musical influences was Michael Jackson. This is one of those MJ songs that encapsulates everything found in an Ethan Cross song: ubiquitous appeal, classic endurance, and an infectious beat that forces you to move.

12. “I Was a Fool” – Tegan and Sara

This song reflects how Sterling feels when Ethan starts changing. He always knew that insane fame was his destiny. But he promised that he would never change. He would always be Sterling’s Ethan, the Ethan she knows better than anyone, the Ethan she fell in love with. Until that promise is broken…

13. “Set Fire to the Rain” – Adele

We all know “Set Fire to the Rain” is the ultimate breakup song. When Sterling’s world is shattered, she questions everything Ethan ever told her. Every promise he made, every passionate whisper in the dark. No matter how many times Sterling hears these lyrics, they resonate so strongly she can barely breathe.

You can find playlists for all of my books on my website. Rock on, friendly neighbors!

dedication

May 20 is almost here.

I wrote the first draft of Now and Forever in the fall and winter of 2012-2013. Two revisions, polishing, and copyediting were completed by the summer of 2013. We always finish working on a book about one year before it’s actually published. Then I move on to writing the first draft of the next book and the whole process starts again.

The best part is when the book is finally published and you can read it. Because you are why I write.

Now and Forever by Susane Colasanti dedication

This is the dedication page of Now and Forever. The book is dedicated to you, rock star. I am eternally grateful to each and every one of you for making this life possible. You have supported me, made me smile, and shared your deepest feelings with me. You show how much you care with every comment on Facebook or Twitter, every message, every email. When I get to meet you in person, your positive energy is spectacular. You send me photos of warm fuzzies you made for your friends, or of my book displays when you see them in bookstores, or of random weird/quirky/cool stuff you know I’ll love. You have allowed me to be a full-time author for seven amazing years. And there are many even more amazing years to come.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for everything. You are, and always will be, my inspiration.

Much love ❤
