along for the ride giveaway

The big day is almost here…

Sarah Dessen’s much anticipated Along for the Ride will be released on June 16! To celebrate, I’m giving away an Along for the Ride galley. Not mine, though. I know you’ll probably think I’m crazy because I didn’t read my copy right away. It’s been seriously difficult to resist. The thing is, I’m going to the Greek Islands in September, so I need to save this book for the 12-hour flight. No other book would be acceptable. Sarah’s books always have such a calming effect on me. And they’re very hard to put down, which is exactly what I’ll need during my Day of Travel. This story sounds absolutely amazing. It’s all about night and romance and possibilities…just the thing to keep me mellow in case we hit turbulence. So yeah, I’m keeping my copy. But I’m getting another one to give away (thanks, Jillian!).

To enter: Leave a comment here on LJ (not Facebook, so we can keep them all together), telling me what your favorite Sarah Dessen book is and why. I will select one winner to receive a galley of Along for the Ride. If you are commenting anonymously, please tell me your first name. For a double entry, pass along this giveaway info by posting a link on your blog or other site. You have until 11:11 p.m. on June 26 to enter. I will announce the winner on June 29. The giveaway is open to US residents only.

Also, have you checked out Sarah-Land yet? It’s a community where Sarah’s readers can connect with one another. How sweet is that?

  1. Dessen, Sarah: all things love
Favorite Book: The Truth About Forever
Reason: Beyond Sawooning, the fact that Wes’ tattoo shows just under his shirt sleeve, and the pothole, what I really appreciated was her perception of grief through a girl wandering in it, and life, and boys (brainy and otherwise), and distant mothers. I just love how it all connects to dealing with it and living every step and becoming brave in the tiniest ways. I find her writing hugely identifiable, and having gone similar events as Macy it is nice to know that I am not the only one that thinks that particular way. I just have yet to find a boy to kiss on the last page.

  3. I’m not eligible for the contest cos I’m in Canada, but I had to reply because I absolutely adore Sarah’s books… my favourite is “The Truth About Forever” but several others are a close second. ♥

  5. I was hoping for a Sarah Dessen contest! My broke, unemployed butt needs to win the Sarah Dessen book. Really.
My favorite book is “Just Listen” because it revolved so much around music and playlists. Music is my world, my oxygen. I think that’s because I grew up with a father who was a Top 40 DJ. I put great effort in the music mixes and playlists I make. I’ve never had any type of relationship where a person made mixes for me to listen to. I would love that!

  7. My absolute favorites is The Truth About Forever. It sums up my life this past year almost perfectly. One of my best friends died right before Junior year started and when I read this book, I connected with Macy right away. Here grief was my grief. Also, I loved how Wes is the perfect foil for Macy. He brings out the Macy the world needs to see, the hurting, self-conscience girl instead of the mask she’s put herself under: pretending everything is perfect. Sarah’s books are unique, inventive, and are true. 100% right on.

My favorite book by Sarah Dessen is probably The Truth About Forever. It’s simple, touching and the characters are so relatable.

  13. Two words: Just Listen
I was a sad and depressed law student (long story) when Sarah Dessen released Just Listen. Having read all of her previous books since I stumbled upon Someone Like You in high school, I immediately went out and bought it. Then I went to the McDonald’s drive-through, blasted a Guster CD, and read almost the entire book in my car.
Law school: three years, all of them torturous. Not an exaggeration. Here are the things that got me through: teaching women’s studies to undergrads, taking dance classes, and making mix CD’s. For me, Just Listen was the perfect book for that point in my life–it was a stunningly accurate portrayal about how music can get us through times in our life we don’t think we’ll survive.
Not that I’m comparing Annabel and Owen’s ordeals to law school. But you get the idea.
BTW, my name is Lauren and my email is maybeimamazed02@yahoo.com. Come visit my blog at http://unprofessionalcritic.blogspot.com!

  15. First, I would like to say that I am a HUGE Dessen fan and I have been trying so hard to get an Along For the Ride galley! My favorite Sarah Dessen book is Someone Like You. I love this book because of the emphasis on friendship and how most of the time, your best friend is the only person keeping you together. This book is also a huge eye opener to the struggle that young girls face if they become pregnant. I also like the fact that Macon isn’t the one to come to Halley’s rescue or create this happy fairy tale ending. Halley has to stand on her own, and she realizes that she doesn’t need this guy to complete her. In the end, the whole book was about Scarlett and Hallley’s friendship. But more than anything, it was about Scarlett’s baby and how it brought them together. The baby brought Halley and her mother together, and it also brought Scarlett and her mother together. My favorite quote from the book is, “Life is an ugly, awful place not to have a best friend.”
My name is DeAnna and if you go to my blog address (www.deannadiaries.blogspot.com) you can see that I posted a link to this giveaway so please enter me in the contest twice. Thanks.

  17. Fave: This Lullaby
It was the 2nd Sarah Dessen book I read, but it has been the one that has remained the most memorable to me. Though I maybe related better to characters in other books, this one resonated because of the Dexter/Remy dynamic. He gets her out of her comfort zone and she ends up in something amazing. You won’t find amazing hiding in your safe zone.

  19. Favorite Dessen Book: Someone Like You.
My name is DeAnna and my favorite Dessen book is Someone Like You. I love this book because of the strong emphasis on friendship. This book shows that sometimes the only person you can count on to be there for you is your best friend. This book also shows the great struggles facing young girls that become pregnant. This story is an example of a strong girl who says “no” to abortion even though her mother pressures her to have one. I also love that fact that Macon isn’t the one to save Halley and create a nice fairy tale ending. He treats her like crap, and in the end she finally realizes that she deserves better than him. She saves herself. Scarlett’s baby brings so many people together, and in the end it’s what the story is truly about. This baby brings Halley and her mother together, and it also brings Scarlett and her mother together. But more than anything, it brings Scarlett and Halley together as best friends. 21. Along for the Ride
My name is Candice. I had to say that since I posted anonymously! Hmmm…this is way too hard for me! I have been a Sarah Dessen fan for awhile now and I love her books…all of them! However, I will say that, if I had to pick one that stood out, it would probably be Just Listen. I have always loved music (can anyone really understand what life was like before the invention of the iPod??) and this book … Read Morerevolved around how music brought two people together and helped them get through distressing times. I could definitely connect with that myself and it made me really enjoy the book that much more.

Favorite book is Dreamland, I have never been in the situation that Caitlin was in being abused as she was. However, when I read the story back in high school, I knew someone who had the same tale tell signs of abuse she was non longer herself. I felt helpless and when i read the book i knew that someone could explain how my friend could stay in a relationship as Caitlin did. I no longer know where my friend is, she graduated ahead of me. I hope she was able to move on as Caitlin did. I agianst abuse no matter who did it male or female. Dreamland also helped me make the choices of watching who I trust in general.

  27. It is always hard for me to choose my favorite Sarah Dessen book. It switches depending on the mood I’m in. But I’m going to have to go with This Lullaby. There’s just something about the characters in that book that suck me in and hold me hostage. Especially Dexter…You can never go wrong with Dexter. I also love the fact that it shows how love, though intense and scary, is what life is really about. You need love to make all the other stuff in life worth while.

  29. My favorite book would have to be The Truth About Forever. There are so many reasons why but I do have a top three. First, I love the way she explains what forever is. My favorite was, “But there was only one truth about forever that really mattered, and that was this:it was happening.” Second, she taught me that it’s okay to grieve. I lost my mom and I always thought that if I keep my feelings about it to myself it would make it better on other people in my life that miss her too, but that’s not true that only hurts me. When I read that part I couldn’t help but love the book more. And last, I love romance but more than that I love TRUE love, like when you know inside of you that you have to be with that person no matter what because its just right, and The Truth About Forever has it all.

  31. this book comes out on my birthday, and that’s just so so so cool.
my favorite Sarah Dessen book is probably This Lullaby. i love books with really drastic character development, and that’s what it’s like in This Lullaby. Remy is so different at the end than she was at the beginning.
    it’s so good.

Definitely the truth about forever. It was the first book of Sarah Dessens that i read, and still is after reading many of her other books. Wes and Macy are so Perfect together, and I love the message about how imperfection isn’t bad…

Hey:) I just finished your book waiting for you and loved it. My favorite Sarah Dessen book is Just Listen. I find it spectacular how little by little what happened to Annabel at the party is revealed. I also enjoy how real Owen is. Most importantly, I love music and I think Sarah Dessen did a superb job at making music a strong aspect of the story. Kalie

  37. My Favorite Sarah Dessen Book is Just Listen because it really involves music and music is a huge part of my life, I love how it brings Owen and Annabel together and I think she did great job of keeping what happened to Annabel until the end. I like how she brought the world of radio into it as well and the relationship between Owen and his sister was cute too.

    • Along for the Ride
My favorite book by Sarah Dessen is Lock And Key. I have read that a lot of people find it as her dullest work, or that they couldn’t connect with it. I think it was her most powerful work, with Ruby trying to find her place in the world. It has a lot of symbolism, and I loved how she really focused on the psychological damage that child abuse concurs. It is just a book with a strong message portrayed, and I love how Sarah puts first-person emotion and tons of work into all of the pieces she does.
I also love Lock and Key because it was one of the most moving books for me in another aspect. The novel was so well-written that it prodded me to start writing YA Fiction myself! I had already been creative writing, but now I am almost finished with a 210-paged novel! [= I know I am only 15, but I would love one day to be published like my role model, Sarah Dessen.
Thank you for reading my comment!

I love the picture you took of Mitali, me, and Adam! It’s funny because I totally freaked out Meg Cabot, I went completely fangirl on her… I was talking a mile a minute about how I loved her books and how I’m Thursday on FiveAwesomeYAFans.

  42. The Truth About Forever
Never fail, I read this book about once a year. I hesitated reading it for a while, because of the subject matter. It first came out around the time my own father died, and obviously reading a book that dealt with a similar matter was not what I wanted. However, I took the plunge and am glad I did.
Its so powerful and true to life, that I can’t put it down – even when it reduces me to tears and brings up painful memories. Macy is so close to me in so many ways, its sort of like reading a warped diary of my life (her life is much more exciting).
Every time I read it, I sort of track my progress compared to Macy’s in terms of moving on and letting go.
And that is why it will always be my favorite Sarah Dessen book.

So far my favorite Sarah Dessen book is Lock & Key – but I still have a few of hers left to read so that could always change! I loved Ruby’s story and Sarah’s writing is absolutely enthralling. And yes, there is definitely something very calming about it. I’m a big fan of hers and really looking forward to the new book!

  46. “Jiggle to get 11”
I guess being Canadian makes me ineligible for the contest [although I do have a close friend in the States–does that help? :P]
Regardless, I thought I would comment anyway, since Sarah is one of the few authors whose books I can read over, and over, and over again and still love them as much as the first time I’d read them.
My favourite, though, would still have to be Keeping the Moon, the first Sarah Dessen book I’d ever read. At the time I read it, I was in high school and found that Colie was a character I could easily relate to. Although she had transformed on the outside, her self-worth still relied heavily on the opinions of others.
I admire the connection between Morgan and Isabel, whose polar opposite personalities remind me of that between my own best friend and I.
I found Mira endearing and, if she were a real person, someone who I’d like to meet. Entirely the opposite of Colie’s character–self assured, despite her weight and the comments that people make about her–she sees the potential for good in everyone, and everything (as seen with just about everything in her house, and her frequent visits to garage sales).
Lastly, I really like that Norman isn’t your typical love interest. He’s a little bit different, and is an outcast in his own right, which makes him the perfect fit in Colie’s life.
I cannot WAIT for Along for the Ride to be released!! 🙂

  48. I love all of them
But I think my favorite is a tie between This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever. I can’t choose between them, I just can’t. I’ve read both of them about 10 times and I never get bored. I mean who could get bored with characters like Dexter and Wes? I LOVE This Lullaby. I love the Truth Squad, Remy’s crazy friends and especially Dexter. I think the Truth About Forever is the novel that I can most relate to. I feel that I am most like Macy, always striving to be perfect. I love Wes -what kind of girl wouldn’t like Wes? He’s amazing on so many levels. I find myself in love with a fictional character. I love Kristy, Monica and Delia. Gosh, they are amazing characters. I love all of Sarah’s characters. I think it’s what makes her novels so special. 🙂

    • Re: I love all of them
My FAVORITE book is definitely The Truth About Forever. That is the best book. I’m always reading it over and over again. I love Wes and Macy’s realtionship. She’s gone through a lot with her dad dying and never running again because that’s where he died. It’s so sad, but all the other characters in the book that work for Wish Catering help her out is so many ways. Mainly Wes, who creates angels wearing his tattoo and gets Macy to love running again.

  50. my favorite book is keeping the moon
i know it’s not the most popular of her novels, however it was the 2nd or 3rd one i read and i just fell in love with it. i loved the story. i loved the characters. i love how it’s not the over done boy meets girl theme, but instead the variation made it all the more endearing.

  52. Fav Sarah Dessen Book
I, like many, love Truth About Forever. For me the reason I covet reading this book over and over again is simply because of the relatability of Macy. I too have lost my father and the lingering questions of what forever really mean have often plagued my own thoughts. Plus Wes is just plan dishy, hehe

  54. My name is Hannah R. My favorite Sarah Dessen book is Someone Like You. I’m not 100% sure why it’s my favorite, but it was the first Sarah Dessen book I read, so it has always held a special place in my heart for me. Also, I love the stories where the girl gets the guy at the end, but Someone Like You, where the girl is strong enough not to settle for the guy, is empowering in that it reminds me that I don’t really need a guy to make me happy.

  58. Just Listen
I just finished Just Listen, and it has to be one of the greatest books I’ve ever read. I relate to Annabel so much, with the keeping everything in for others’ sake, and all that. I love Owen, and he has inspired me in so many ways, like with telling the truth always, and also looking into new (“obscure”) music. I live around music, and when I discovered Owen Armstrong it only encouraged me to listen to more things. I’m sort of disappointed that some of the musicians are not real, but Ebb-Tide is, and he’s AMAZING. Check him out on Myspace. Toward the end, though, was when it completely captivated me: Dexter and the rest of Truth Squad, from This Lullaby, another favourite of mine, are intertwined into the story. That just absolutely blew me away, it was so awesome! I really want to hear this potato song now. This book is just amazing, and I can’t wait to read all her other awesome novels.

  60. The Truth About Forever
My favorite Sarah Dessen book changes at times, because really aren’t they all so great? But I think it is pretty clear to me the real favorite. It has always been The Truth About Forever. I have always felt a connection to Macy, felt very much afraid of taking chances the way she starts out. I am shy and quiet like Macy (at least at first) and constantly afraid of doing things that seem scary. This past year, the story took on even greater meaning when my father passed away and I could relate to another part of her story. It was really nice to have one of my favorite characters help me through such a rough patch. A big part of Macy’s grief was trying to pretend everything was fine, and I had that same problem.

  62. Someone Like You
This was my first Sarah Dessen book, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Plus, Scarlett and Halley are ridiculously similar to me and my best friend. I love books about the relationship between best friends, probably because I didn’t have one for the first 10 years of my life. All of her books are amazing, so it’s hard to choose just one. =]

  64. SD and Someone Like You-Nia Garrett
Someone Like You is my favorite Sarah Dessen book and it’s the first 1 I read before becoming a fan 6 years ago. I love the strong themes of friendship and triumph shown in Halley and Scarlett and the relationship b/w Halley and her Mother. I think mosts teenage girls understand what it’s like to be crazy over a boy that you know is bad for you, that everyone is telling you is bad for you, but being unable to let go. It was just wonderful and I felt very connected to it.

Well, I hate to admit this, but I haven’t read any Sarah Dessen books. I know, I’m probably the only one on the planet. So, I can’t choose a favorite, but I’d like to start my Sarah Dessen experience with Along for the Ride.

  68. My favorite Sarah Dessen book would have to be “The Truth About Forever”!!!
I randomly picked it up at the library after I just moved to a new city. It seriously blew me away. I had no idea I could relate or connect so much with a book. I swallowed up the characters, the settings, the feelings. Macy’s perfectionism–I could relate. Wes’ attitude about nothing broken–I wanted. Wish–I wanted (and want because I’m starting an internship where I work 40 hours a week!). Perhaps this was the first Sarah Dessen book I picked up so it may be why it’s my favorite, but I had never connected with a book so much.

  70. What a great contest! I love Sarah. My favorite book of hers is This Lullaby. It was the first book I read of Sarah’s and I really love the character of Remy. She’s so strict on herself and I like how Dexter helps her loosen up and realize that nothing can ever be perfect but that it’s okay.

  72. My favorite Sarah Dessen novel (although it is incredibly hard to choose just one) is This Lullaby. I don’t know if I have a definite, explainable reason, so if the rest of this comment is really random and incoherent, I apologize. I think the reason I most love it is because Remy is so anti-love and she is so cynical. She doesn’t believe in love because of her past and her mother’s life, but then it literally smacks right into her. Dexter is just an incredible balance to Remy’s…analness? (is that even a word?! oh well it is now.) I love the way Remy changes, but it takes a lot of heartbreak. It didn’t come easy and it wasn’t necessarily fun, but in the end Remy understands why her mother continues to get married. She just gets it. And is no longer cynical. I also liked the way that it ends, Dexter and Remy together, but not indefinitely. They both realize the difficulties of a long-distance relationship, so they don’t really make any promises. It’s just a very real novel that anyone can relate to. I mean, my parents have been married all my life, I in no way resemble Remy or her life-style and I have never been lucky enough to date a Dexter, but inspite of all that, I can relate to the story.
Okay I’m done rambling now. And I hope that made sense. I love Sarah Dessen and her novels!! :]

  74. Favorite Sarah Dessen book
All of her books are amazing. So I am going to tell you about two of my favorite books. First is Just Listen. Its my favorite because it shows what does happen in high school, it is so relate able. Best friends get mad hold grudges ruin eachothers lives. Each character is relate able to everyone. we all need to be saved sometimes. Another book I really like is Dreamland. It is amazing, there really is dating abuse that goes on in the world and no one should have to go through it. It shows what can happen when one person in family does something it effects everyone. Sarah Dessen is an amazing author and i really want to have a copy of Along for the Ride!!!! it will be good I just know it will be!

  76. My favourite Sarah Dessen book would probably have to be Just Listen. I, myself, am a big music fan. I always listen to music. A window with a Youtube video is always open on my computer, and my iPod is my best friend. This fact helps me relate to Owen quite well, and his parents being divorced and the yelling makes sense to me. I also relate so well to Annabel, I was raped and I’m not 5 ft 9 and I’m sure as hell not a model, but she’s afraid of what people are going to say if she says something they don’t like and get people agitated with her, which is exactly how I am.
So, IN CONCLUSION (haha, sorry this was long), I find the characters in this book very relate able, and who can deny the fact that Annabel and Owen’s relationship is so adorable? Where can I find one?

  78. Favorite book: The Truth About Forever
    Susane,
If I had to pick just one book of Sarah Dessen’s – which is very, very hard – then I would have to pick The Truth About Forever. There are so many reasons why I love this book. Before I read this book, I was pretty shy, I worried a lot, I never took risks, I just played it safe. But this book, this amazing book, changed my life. I’m now outgoing, I do more spontanious things, I worry less, and whats life without risk? If my forever was ending tomorrow, I want to be proud of how I lived. All of Sarah Dessen’s books have changed my life actually, in so many ways, I learned so many lessons. But the truth About Forever had the biggest impression. I went through the changes right along with Macy. I fell in love with Wes, of course. I still believe I’ll find my Wes someday =]. Every detail in this book made it work. The depth and meaning of every little piece just hit me. My friends always get annoyed because I always spit out Quotes from Sarah’s books to them. But I guess it is like Sarah says in TTAF: “No one could tell you: you just had to go through it on your own. If you were lucky, you came out on the other side and understood. If you didn’t, you kept getting thrust back, retracing those steps, until you finally got it right.”
Thanks to her book, I finally understand. words cant even express how much I love this book. It has done so many things for me, and it brought me just what I needed: The Wish Catering Crew. I thank Sarah from the bottom of my heart for that.
PS: In art class, almost all of my projects had to do with quotes from her books:

  82. Favorite Sarah Dessen Book – Cheryl J.
I love Sarah’s book, “That Summer.” It captures the magical time in youth when yearning, possibility, pain, and pleasure turn into something so beautiful it almost hurts the heart told hold it. Yet the heart does hold it all, and ultimately it begans to soar.

  84. It seems I’m completely in the minority with this, BUT my favorite Dessen novel is Dreamland. I love all of her novels to be honest, but I read Dreamland at a time in my life when the subject matter really hit close to home and it really helped me get through a rough time in my life.

  86. The Truth About Forever
I don’t remember why this book originally caught my attention on the shelf, but I’ll never stop remembering why I grew to love it. From the start I began to identify with Macy. Her need to be perfect, flawless. Holding on to anything that seemed dependable. It was all there, staring me right back in the face. Macy went on to meet WISH Catering. God, I fell head over heels for that group. They were so genuinely real; they accepted their flaws and appreciated their quirks…
And THEN there was Wes. Dreamboy. All I can hope for is that Sarah based him off of someone real, and that he’s out there. Single. =)
The Truth About Forever opened me up, and made me look at how I live my life. Perfection is not necessary, but surrounding yourself with people who make you laugh, love, and truly live are.

  88. Just Listen ❤
My name is Molly and my favorite Sarah Dessen book would have to be Just Listen.
My reasoning for this is that I love music almost as much as I love reading. When I read I listen to music. So this book was cool for me in that way. Also, i loved Owen. Owen is my perfect guy. I loved how he was able to make Annabel listen and be honest. She was able to be honest about what happened and how she felt about things [especially the modeling. that was hard for her] in the end and it was a very encouraging story. It dealt with very real issues some people face and I was so happy she was able to deal with it all in the end. I also love the name Annabel and quite possibly will name my first girl Annabel. I read this book incredibly fast and I was disappointed it was over because i throughly enjoyed reading Just Listen.

  90. contest!
Lock and Key is my favorite of Sarah Dessen’s books. I connected with Ruby’s struggles to accept help and still maintain her independence. I loved the symbolism of the key that Ruby wears and especially loved the ending of Ruby giving her key away.

  92. Fav Sarah Dessen book
    Favorite book: This Lullaby
Why: I love this masterpiece of a book, b/c of the nature Sarah Dessen had created between Remy and Dexter. They clash and they dance. Dexter is, from the start, SO NOT Remy’s type. And for Remy not being about to dump him is what kept me hooked. Plus, this book taught me about taking risks and having faith in things in life.
I’ve also added the contest onto my blog!

I’d have to say my favorite book is Lock and Key. I like that Ruby, even though she has been abandoned by everyone she’s ever been close to, can still learn to forgive and love again. I like that message that even when life is tough, you can still be strong and persevere.

  96. My favorite book of all time of Sarah’s books are tied between The Truth About Forever and Lock & Key because I love all the characters in The Truth About Forever and the relationship between Macy and Wes is just so perfect and their game of truth…I love it. Then there is Lock & Key with Ruby and Nate, I just love how she helps him with his problem with his dad and their friendship is just something that I can relate to so easily. Those are my two favorites as of right now and I cannot wait for Along For The Ride. Have a great weekend.

My favorite Sarah Dessen book is “The Truth About Forever” because when I was Macy’s age I had a job at the library, I had a boyfriend who went away to camp for the summer, and because I could have really used the people from Wish Catering in my life. Sarah Dessen has a way of writing books that any girl can relate to, but some stories just hit home more than others. And “The Truth About Forever” was certainly the most fitting of her books for me at that time in my life.

  100. fav book
No doubt my favorite Sarah Dessen book is The Truth About Forever. The theme and characters are so relatable. And the way Sarah weaves in the heart and hand sculptures is just so awesome!! Ah! Love it!

  102. I really, really enjoy Sarah Dessen’s books, so it’s hard to just choose one. If I had to though, it would probably be Just Listen, which I’ve read multiple times. For one I can really connect to it because music is such a big part of my life, and I agree with so many things that Owen says about it. Also, the part about silence being so loud – I was surprised to see that mentioned, because I’ve thought about that many times. Besides relating to the book, I just love her writing style and how it makes you want to keep on reading and not put it down. It’s my favorite book of hers because the story makes you, like I said, want to know more, and it is so easy to relate to. 🙂

  104. My favorite Sarah Dessen book, hands down, is THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER. It was the first book of Sarah’s that I ever read and the reason I kept on reading. Even though that’s a part of why it’s my favorite, the story and characters are what really made it the best. I loved Wes’s story and watching Macy come to terms with her father’s death. So good!
    Thanks!

  106. okay. so the thing is, choosing one of sarah’s books, and only one, is extremely hard. i mean like pull-out-my- hair off my head hard. (yes, that hard!) i could rant all day long about her awesomeness but i doubt you have the time! so if i had to choose one, i’d say the truth about forever.
i wish i had a really good reason for loving the book so much, but i don’t. all i know is that it’s good and what more do you need? the story flows so smoothly and the idea of a catering job is oh so hilarious, i
l-o-v-e it! art and running are two of my most favorite things to do.
throughout the book, i found my self slowly calming down and of course, wes is undeniably, abso-freakin-lutly hot! like he should totally wear a “highly flammable” sign! i swear, i swooned like 30 times in the book!
and of course, all the characters remind me of people i know and love, and that made me love it all the more. and unlike many chick-lit authors, sarah’s books all have meaning. most books i read for pleasure, but these are a must have. like lip gloss! lol! okay now i am driveling so i guess i should stop…? but yeah, i completely adore this book

  108. favorite Sarah Dessen book
I think my current favorite is This Lullaby. It’s kind of strange because the first time I read it, I disliked it. But I picked it up again a couple of months ago and was absolutely immersed in it. I really relate to Remy, and I love her cynicism and tough-girl exterior. And Dexter! While he’s not entirely sa-woon as Wes from The Truth About Forever and not the most honest boy in the world like Owen from Just Listen, he has his own special charm. Right when I read the name Dexter, I totally thought he sounded like a nerd. But he was so endearing! Especially his little challenges. One of my favorite scenes is when Remy buys him plates – it’s adorable and shows you exactly how hard she’s fallen for him, yet subtle and not in-your-face cloying. I could go on, but I’m trying to be as concise as possible!

  110. Favorite Book: The Truth About Forever
I would have to say that, of all the Sarah Dessen books I have read, The Truth About Forever is my favorite. First of all, I listened to it in my iPOD, rather than actually reading it, and listening to the voices made the story come alive for me. Aside from this, this book is so smartly written, there is something for everyone, something everyone can relate to. In my case, I related most with the grief aspect of the plot. Although my dad didn’t pass away, someone close to me did, very suddenly in fact. Because of this, and because we were not related, I felt like I didn’t have a right to grieve, and thus, pushed my sadness and anger and frustration down, focusing on anything but that. As I listened to the book, I felt a little less alone, as if somehow, there was a possibility that I could find closure, or at least come to terms with everything that happened to me the way Macy does at the end of the story. She does have a long way to go by the time the story ends, but there is hope there. And when I read that, I felt like there was hope for me, too.

  114. My favorite Sarah Dessen book is…
My favorite Sarah Dessen book is “Just Listen,” because I can truly relate to several of the characters. Like Annabel, I understand what it’s like to have trouble with my sister, who used to keep the appearance of perfection. Like Clark, I have been abandoned by my “best friend” for the “popular” crowd; in the long run, it’s been one of the best things for me. I understand Owen’s passion and have experienced that same nostalgia and crystal-clear re-lived experience of a memory, simply from listening to a song.
“Just Listen” is my favorite Sarah Dessen book, because the characters seem so human and so real, like friends I’ve just discovered I had.

  118. Interesting is not a word
Though all of Sarah Dessen’s book are simply amazing, I would have to say that my favorite book would be Just Listen. From “Don’t think or judge, just listen,” to “Life is an awful, ugly place to not have a best friend,” Just Listen has so many great quotes that everybody can relate to. As well as the quotes, I love how Owen and Annabel seem to come from two opposite worlds, yet when together, they just click. What’s also great is that even though the book is about Annabel and Owen, you also get to read about the other relationships that most of us deal with in life today (such as Clarke and Annabel, or even Sophie and Annabel.) Even though the themes and topics in the book are serious, they really bring the book together. Plus, who wouldn’t love a book about music?! In all, Just Listen, is my favorite book by Sarah Dessen.

  120. Keeping the Moon is my favorite of all of Sarah’s books…unexpected I know. I’ve noticed this isn’t a popular favorite, and yet I have no clue why. I love the message of this book, in that you have to look past just one level of people (the pretty skinny girls used to be fat and nerdy, and the weirdo sunglasses nerd can can be the nicest, sweetest boy you have ever met)
Additionally, as someone who has battled with an eating disorder, the message that you are beautiful just by believing you can be is really empowering to me, and my copy of this paper back is yellowed and tattered from reading it constantly in my darkest hour.
Keeping The Moon was given to me as a gift by one of my favorite teachers a 6 years ago now (WOW! 6 years of Dessen-love) and while she taught me lots lessons before she passed of cancer, her giving me this book has done more for me than anything academia could ever provide.

  122. the truth about forever
The Truth About Forever definitely has to be my favorite book. I am such a sucker for all things romantic, and the book is so cute. Macy is just an average girl with a super dork boyfriend. Then she gets the meet the amazing Wes, an artist no less. Sweet & sensitive, it’s just the kind of boyfriend I want. It’s like perfect. They get to really intimately learn about each other, which I love. They are so sweet. Macy experiences new things working for the catering company & falls in love. It’s the formula for the perfect book!

  124. Favorite Book: Dreamland
Why: Sarah is this brilliant author that has the ability to perfectly capture what it’s like to be a teenager. In Dreamland, I don’t think she could have made Caitlin a more real person. Every thought that Caitlin has, whether it be positive or negative, I’ve either thought myself or can imagine myself thinking it. It’s as if she were writing through the mind of a teenager. I think that’s what made Dreamland so relatable and real. Also, she picked a subject that requires the main character to deal with many different raw emotions, which are hard to portray on page. However, Sarah does it with perfection. Another reason I love the book is because of Boo. I love everything about her character and I just think she was written flawlessly. I wonder what it would be like if she were my mom, too. I’ve never felt so connected to a book, which is why I really love Dreamland.

  126. The Truth about Forever
I love that it is a story about loss and grief without being super depressing. And Wes? I think it (he?) pretty much speaks for itself. It was also the first Sarah Dessen book I ever read so loyalty and all that. But like all her books, it’s also fantastical so it wasn’t THAT hard for me to pick it.

  130. The Truth About Forever
Choosing a favorite Sarah Dessen book is difficult – but I’d have to say mine is The Truth About Forever. I’ve just always been able to relate to it in every way. My father passed away when I was young, and I grew up dealing with the same grief Macy felt. And as I grew older I too struggled for perfection – even though it is clearly unattainable.

  132. My favorite Sarah Dessen book is “That Summer.” It amazes me to think this was her first published book, because it’s so well written, and it’s funny and tender and endearing. The scene in the shoe store, where Haven throws a small shoe at a woman’s head, still cracks me up.

  134. I Heart Sarah Dessen
I love Sarah so much…I follow her on facebook and livejournal, have read all her books multiple times, and am going to see her in IL in July. I’ve had my family on the lookout at all bookstores in the area trying to snag an early copy, even though it comes out on Tuesday, but we’ve had no luck. I’d love one!

  136. Liliana Dominguez
    favorite book: Just Listen
reasons: I’m a sucker for romance stories. This has got to be the sweetest story I’ve ever read. The main thing i love about this book is the way music helps Anabelle work through her problems since i LOVE music(who doesn’t) and whenever I’m feeling down or jus angry any song can just bring me out of it. Also the fact that i think Owen is the cooles guy ever…too bad his not real:(

  138. Someone like You
First off I’m Katie. A couple months ago I went to my local library looking for something that will interest me. I had just finished the Twilight books by Stephenie Meyer so I didn’t know what would grab my attention. I was searching the computer, looking through the shelves and couldn’t find anything. So I went on Amazon and searched Teen Romance. I saw this book called Someone Like You and thought I would give it a try. The next day I was back at the library, I found the author but not Someone Like you. I asked the librarian and she said I would have to be on a waiting list. Upset at the fact that I couldn’t read this book that really interested in I decided to read Dreamland while I wait for Someone Like You. I couldn’t believe how much I liked it. I finished it that night. Then that Saturday I got a call from the library, I was next on the waiting list! I ran down there (I only live a mile away) and fell in love. After that Sarah Dessens books were all I wanted to read. They quickly became my favorite books to read. But my favorite would have to be Someone Like You because Hailey has this relationship with her best friend that can’t be broken, even when her best friend is pregnant. And not that I don’t love an ending with a cute boy but I’m glad she didn’t end up with Macon. It made it seem real, cause in life you don’t always end up with the cute guy. That’s why this book is my favorite.
Although Someone Like You is my favorite, I think along for the ride might take the place once it comes out. Being that Auden doesn’t sleep much and has a lot of family problems I can really relate. I can’t wait for Along for The Ride, and all Sarah’s books that she will write in the future!
Oh and sorry if this is a little long. Sometimes I just can’t help myself 🙂

  140. My favorite Sarah Dessen book is This Lullaby. I remember walking through Barnes & Noble just browsing through the Teen section when the book just jumped out at me. It was my first Sarah Dessen book and the one that made me fall in love with her characters, her writing style, and her wonderful and relatable stories. I remember thinking that it was one of the best novels I read that year, and a very well-written one at that. Since that time five or six years ago I’ve read all of Sarah’s books and now she’s my favorite author!

  142. The thing about Sarah Dessen’s books is that it is so, so hard for me to choose my favorite, because she’s been my favorite author for such a long time. However, This Lullaby will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first of Sarah Dessen’s books that I read when I was finally old enough to connect to it. I checked it out of the library because I liked the cover, and the second I finished, I started it over again. I loved Dexter, wanted (and still want!) to see Truth Squad in concert, and I will always and forever Hate Spinnerbait. This Lullaby quickly became my favorite book, and after I bought my own copy I read it over and over again to the point where my copy is battered and worn, but I can’t bring myself to replace it. Each time I reread This Lullaby, I find myself getting teary by the end because I’ve gotten so attached to the characters once again. My love for Sarah’s other books is only slightly eclipsed by This Lullaby, and I can truly say that I am anxiously waiting to read Along for the Ride.

Oops, I totally didn’t see that I had to write about my favorite book.
My favorite Sarah Dessen book is This Lullaby. I’ve tried so many times to come up with a reason as to why it is, but nothing ever seems to fit perfectly. I relate so much to Remy, she’s like a total clone of my views on love and my personality. The message of the book is also so strong. I reread it in times when I’m trying to get over a guy & I’m in a “love sucks” mood. It makes me realize how wonderful love can really be. If you don’t worry & analyze it so much.
Sarah Dessen is an amazing author, and I love her books.

  146. Saaawoooon:)
As implied on the subject, my favorite Sarah Dessen would be The Truth about Forever simply because I love to read about loss and love. I love how the book was able to tug at all the right places whenever Wes and Macy are together (swoon, swoon, sawoonn!) and also along with the other characters. I love that they were able to come to life and I was able to feel their presence, like they really exist, while reading the book (which does not happen very often)!
So with that said, I think Along for the Ride will be as amazing, if not more than The Truth about Forever and I really, completely, utterly can’t wait to read it! I hope I win, thanks for holding this contest!:)

  148. My Favorite Sarah Dessen Book!
    Hi!
My top four favorite Sarah Dessen books have been “The Truth About Forever”, “This Lullaby”, “Just Listen” and “Someone Like You”.
But of course, my favorite one was “The Truth About Forever”.
The book had a lasting affect on me- it was amazing, I just loved it.
For my end of the year speech this year at school I wrote it on the book, on the word Forever and it’s meaning, and how amazing Sarah Dessen is and how she has changed me through her books.
“The Truth About Forever” was special to me for so many reasons…
The characters, for one thing, were just, I don’t know how to explain it! They all had different personalities, and the personalities were wonderfully shown.
And the ending of the book I thought was amazing. It was absolutly perfect, as well.
Hmmm… Actually, as mentioned in my speech, I can’t exact remember WHY that book meant so much to me after reading it.
I loved everything about catering and I loved Wes’s love for imperfection in the driveway and his wacked brother!
I also thought that the death of Macy’s father was a big, wonderfully beautiful and sad part of the book. As a writer, I know how hard it is to write about losses that important to the family, such as a father or mother or sibling. Even if they aren’t even living when the book starts, it’s hard to go on without them!
After reading this blog post, I jumped at the chance for a copy of the book- and even if I don’t win, I think I’m going to take your advice snippet there, and keep my copy of the book until my trip in July. I think it would be best for me AND the beauty of the book to read it on the train ride there!

  152. My Favorite Sarah Dessen Book.
My favorite Sarah Dessen book is tied but the one that has the most meaning to me is The Truth About Forever. Im alot like Macy. My dad didnt die but he is a alchaholic. Im use to telling people Im fine…even when Im not. I dont want to be trouble or cause to much when theres so much already going on. Im not very good at explaining things sorry. The book helped me realize that its okay to tell people how you feel, which is very hard for me to do. Yes i cried in the book. I cried when she said that she didnt want him. I cried not only because he left but because i was worried that she would turn back into the person she was before. Thats why The Truth Abut Forever is my favorite book..Its not just because I like it, I would have a billoin favorite books by her if thats why. Its because its helped me. The book was great. and I did like it but thats not the only reason.

  154. Favorite Sarah Dessen Book.
Well Hello =], Anyway I love Sarah Dessen. I’ve read all of her books and pretty much got every other girl in my class to start reading them. Although its a tough tie between: Lock and Key, This Lullaby and Just Listen. I would have to say my favorite Sarah Dessen Book is Just Listen. I love music, and I love Annabel and Owen’s relationship. I love how Owen speaks his mind and teaches Annabel to do the same. They are so cute together. I can relate. Just Listen will always be my favorite book its sad, happy and cute. Anyway I still feel like I should tell you why I love Lock and Key and This Lullaby. I love Lock and Key because I love the way Ruby builds this really tough exterior but on the inside, she is loving and caring. I love This Lullaby because again I love music. And Dexter reminds me so much of my friend Warren. Oh and one more thing (sorry this is dragging on forever) =] but my first book I read by Sarah Dessen was Keeping The Moon. And I feel like no one ever talks about it. But one thing I would say about it is that that book relates to me the most. I feel like the outsider all the time. Well thats it! Thanks for reading. 🙂

  156. i know that with the massive amounts of comments that you’ll get for this contest it’s going to be hard to make one stand out, but hopefully i can give it a try!
my favorite sarah dessen book is the truth about forever. when i first bought the book, it was just weeks after my mother died; i was going through the hardest time of my life, having to deal with the loss of my mother after seeing her on life support for a week. i had read a quote from the book online in a discussion group for teens who were dealing with death and i had decided to pick it up. it shocked me how much i could relate to every topic in the truth about forever; i too knew what it felt like to see a loved one pass away, to have the other parent be distant, or to struggle with school after such a horrible thing had happened. everything that sarah put into the book helped make me feel as if i was going to be okay, and that life does go on after such tragic things happen to us. the truth about forever is my favorite book of all time because of how much it helped me. all of sarah’s books kept me going through those hard times two years ago, and i am so thankful that sarah wrote her books. her powerful stories are what kept me going, taking me away from my troubled thoughts to the quick zip instead, making me smile in times when i never, ever thought that was possible.

  158. Favorite Book
Even though I truly love all of Sarah Dessen’s books my favorite one has to be “Just Listen”. I think it’s the best because it takes this girl who was popular but then outed by that crowd only to fall for a guy that no one wanted to give a chance. And then he has this unusual passion for music that’s really inspiring in it’s own way. And most of all whenever someone wants me to listen to a story and maybe give some advice, I always think of this book–“Don’t think, don’t judge. Just Listen.”

Thank you soooo much for holding this contest, Susane! I really appreciate it!
I think Sarah Dessen is WICKED amazing! My favorite Sarah Dessen book, without a doubt, is This Lullaby. I immediately fell in love with the book, because of Remy. I always find myself rooting for the person who has a tough exterior, but deep down isn’t as tough. I loved Remy’s sarcastic and funny personality. And Dexter!! Not only a sweetheart, but a musician! *swoon* I loved their romance. Anyways, I remember when I first got it, it was at night and so I stayed up half the night reading it! I could not put it down for one second. I don’t blame you for wanting to read it on your flight!!

  162. I saw a link for this contest on Sarah Dessen’s livejournal page ans she wrote that this was an easy contest to enter, all you had to do was comment. BUT making me choose one Sarah Dessen book as my favorite is far from easy. I’ve narrowed it down to four: ‘The Truth About Forever’ ‘This Lullaby’ ‘Lock and Key’ and ‘Just Listen’
all though i think that ‘Just Listen’ will have to be my favorite. I can relate to both Owen and Annabel. to the owen side, music is a huge part of my life, if i dont have my ipod in (which is rare) im usually singing or have a song playing through my head. but then i also relate to annabel, nothing has happened to me that was as traumatic as what happened to annabel but i have had similar things happen with my friends and family. friends who just abandon you and people making up things about you. But also how a miscommunication (or lack of any communication) can lead to really good friends not speaking with each other for months.
i also like that it has a happy ending, that even with all the things that have happened between them and to them, they can still be with each other.

  164. The truth about forever is my favorite book by Sarah Dessen because I was about to be a Junior in high school and I was going to have to start taking the SAT’s and ACT’s so I was worried. Then I followed the characters through the story, wanting to eat the food they were catering I wanted to become a character in the book so I could help serve the guests.

  166. My favorite Sarah Dessen book…
would definitely be The Truth About Forever. Besides the obvious reason of Wes being the most dreamy book character ever, I loved the way I felt when I read it. I could actually imagine getting stuck in Delia’s hole, or being forced into a weird outfit by Kristen. All in all, Dessen made me feel like these people were my friends and for a lack of better words, that is really rad.

  170. FAVORITE BOOK: The Truth About Forever
WHY: I honestly cannot sum up exactly why this book is so completely perfect. It just really hit home to me. I own all of Sarah’s books and this one is my number one. Everytime I read it I just get this overwhelming feeling of happiness, and even some jealousy. haha! It is just a story that I would love to live in.

My favorite book by Sarah Dessen is This Lullaby. I started reading Sarah Dessen’s books about two years ago, and this is the first one i picked up when I was at the library. All i did was look at the cover and I knew i wanted to read it. I love books about relationships, and this book is all about letting go and not being afraid of knowing people and letting them know you.I’m afraid of so many things, and this book helped me through it. I went through the ups and downs of life with Remy, and just having someone there made it so much easier. This book lead to my love for Sarah Dessen, and now I own all of her books and i love how they make me FEEL something, as opposed to some books that don’t pull the reader in.

  174. Hello there.
    Name: Tasha, age 25.
Favorite Book: My favorite book so far is “This Lullaby” which I just finished this afternoon. I grew up without knowing my father and had had a hard time believing in love. I completely fell for Dexter and his awkwardness and the way he was very direct in everything he did, but I think what I loved most was his confidence. No matter what anyone said, he knew exactly who he was and what he wanted from life and wasn’t afraid to let anyone know it. It’s funny; from the outside, it would seem as if Remy was the one who was sure of it all, but it turned out to be completely opposite. The end had me in tears and I loved every minute of it.
I can’t wait to read “Along for the Ride” and love it just as much as the rest of Sarah’s books!

My name is Michelle. The first book I read was The Truth About Forever, and although I have yet to read more, I think that this is my favorite because of how Sarah Dessen ties everything up so perfectly and how I felt like I could relate to Macy in so many ways. I liked how Wes was there for her and I loved how simple their relationship was and how it was presented. The Truth game built up their relationship and I liked how it tied in with their happy ending. Sarah Dessen is such a wonderful author and I’ll always be reading, thanks to her.

  180. Along for the Ride Book Giveaway
    E-mail: kelseyjsutton@hotmail.com
POSTED GIVEAWAY INFORMATION ON MY BLOG FOR DOUBLE ENTRY
My favorite Sarah Dessen book is forever and always This Lullaby. It was the first book of hers that I happened to pick up, and just on the first page the story grabbed ahold of me and wouldn’t let go. But it isn’t really the plot or the setting that got my attention – it was the characters. Remy is so real to me, in the ways she hates and longs for her father all at the same time. The reality of how she feels responsible for her absent-minded mother, and the heart-trendings ways she tries to hide who she is and what she’s feeling.
And Dexter. Oh, where to start with Dexter? He’s genuine, he’s dorky, he’s sweet, he’s just… real. He’s not the perfect guy; he trips over his shoelaces, his dog reeks, he’s in a band (hate Spinnerbait!), and he actually likes Remy for who she is. And just like what This Lullaby did to me, he grabbed ahold of Remy and didn’t let go.
Reading this book opened many doors for me. It made me feel better to know that I’m not the only girl out there without a father, not the only girl out there who’s dating, dating, all the while looking for the guy for me. Not the perfect guy, just the right guy. There’s a difference. Remy and I have a lot in common, and I look upon her and This Lullaby as old friends. I enjoy the reunions we have whenever I take them down from the bookshelf.
    Wherever you may go
    I will let you down
    But this lullaby plays on…

My favorite Sarah Dessen book is forever and always This Lullaby. It was the first book of hers that I happened to pick up, and just on the first page the story grabbed ahold of me and wouldn’t let go. But it isn’t really the plot or the setting that got my attention – it was the characters. Remy is so real to me, in the ways she hates and longs for her father all at the same time. The reality of how she feels responsible for her absent-minded mother, and the heart-trendings ways she tries to hide who she is and what she’s feeling.

  182. Why I Should Win Along For The Ride
My favorite Sarah Dessen book is Lock and Key. My mother has never abandon me, but when my parents divorced and I saw what love could do to you. I hid and ran from the world and didn’t trust anyone but myself. Till now i still have trouble trusting people and boys especially. I can’t bear the thought of getting hurt. I learned from Ruby in the book that sometimes you have to look past yourself and grow up and take on the world to help others who can’t do what you can. Being strong all the time is tiring but Ruby did it. Her sister and her were so close just like my older sister and I. I always have depened on her and she has always taken care of me as long as i can remember. Even to this day when she’s with her boyfriend 24/7. My sister is like Cora. She faced her problems and could ALWAYS stand up to my dad. She literally took the beating and verbal words thrown at her. I would love to win Along For The Ride because like Auden, her parents are divorced and i could relate to her situations even if not entirely the same. Even if i don’t win you can guarantee i will buy the book. I have made a list of all the Sarah Dessen books and i plan on reading every one of them. Ruby also had a key around her neck and i keep an old bracelet my dad gave to my mom when they were married. It’s sad when my parents can’t talk at all to one another. I had to grow up a lot faster then i intended to when i was 6. I still have a hard time telling someone i love them back or staying close to them. On my myspace i even have a quote from Lock and Key as my headline, “It’s alot easier to be lost then found. It’s the reason we’re always searching and rarely discovering__So many locks, not enough keys. **Lock and Key**” I would love to win this book because then i could use my money for another one of Sarah’s books i haven’t been able to find and read yet.

  186. I hope it’s not too late
My favorite Sarah Dessen book is Just Listen, because it inspired me to try and listen more to everyone who’s around me. It also helped me to be courageous if I ever have a situation like Annabelle did in her book.

Hey there! I’m Krystel (DouBLeKae on Twitter, which was how I found out about this contest and where I will post a link for the contest. I don‘t know if that qualifies for a double entry, but I don’t really have a blog). Picking one book from Sarah Dessen’s books is quite difficult, considering that I’ve read them all and love them all. Although, there is one book that definitely impacted me: ‘Just Listen’ . The reason it speaks to me is because I live a pretty eccentric life. It’s nothing special and it’s not tragic but it’s not normal. My little sister has a stream of medical conditions all because her liver failed when she was 14 months. Now 8 years later and my parents fuss over her like Whitney was fussed over in the book, not that I really mind. Last year I was in a pretty dark place and really stressed, it was so bad that I stumbled into self-mutilation for a bit. Because of everything that was happening at home I had no one to talk to about it. People would see me and they always think that I was so great at dealing with everything, but like in the book, there were two sides to the story. The one thing I wanted to be done was for someone to just listen and not think about what I was doing or judge me. Although what I experienced wasn’t as intense as what Annabel had gone through, I felt a connection with her (i.e. I don‘t always say what I feel either).‘Just Listen’ encouraged me to speak up about how I was really feeling and get help, plus I fell in love with Owen and his open mind for music. Okay, so I thank you for taking a moment to read this and for the opportunity. I apologize for talking so much, I just had a lot to say. XD Have a great day! ‘When It Happens’ was amazing!
    Yours truly,

  192. my favorite sarah dessen book has to be That Summer, her debut novel and the first of hers i read. it’s protagonist, haven, is believable, experiencing the very real-seeming vagaries of life as a teenager and family break-up, and not spoiled by an unbelievable romance storyline. sometimes 15-year olds are just 15. and sometimes life doesn’t run smooth.
so that’s why i love it.

  194. Favorite Sarah Dessen book so far by RachelB
Just Listen is my favorite so far although I have only been able to read about half of them. I love Annabel and Owen’s interaction. Although now that I think about it the most recently read one is my favorite. Lock and Key was the one I read before Just Listen and that one was my favorite then. I think I like the level of detail that goes into the books. Like Owen loving music and Jamie’s fishpond. I also love when different books share details with the others but without making it a ‘here is a group a friends and each book is just one of their stories series’ or at least that isn’t what the ones I have read seem like.

  196. While I love all of Sarah Dessen’s books, I’d have to say Just Listen is my favorite. With Just Listen, it’s such a touching story, and both main characters have charactistics that a lot of people can relate to. I think that makes a story so much better when the main characters have lots of little pieces that people can relate to in large ways. Plus, the two main characters attempt to work through their problems and Owen is just the sweetest. I love the emphasis on music as well, music is something everyone can connect with as well.

  198. my favorite book by sarah is the truth about forever.
I can really relate to macy in so many ways.
she constantly feels pressured and like people don’t see her for her. and how her mom makes her think she has to conform to who she thinks macy should really be.
and then she meets the wish crew. delia, kristy, monica, bert, and wes.
I think kristy and monica teach macy that no matter how bad life can get for you (kristy… perfect example) you can make the best of it. and don’t hide who you are, embrace it.
and wes… I think he made macy see that she doesn’t need to be perfect all the time, that she just needs to be herself. because as he stated, “by trying to be perfect you’re just setting yourself up to be disappointed.” because NO ONE is perfect.

  200. This Lullaby is my favorite of Sarah’s books because there’s something about the characters that makes them so incredibly dynamic. The cast of characters is a really versatile one, and every one adds another layer to the story. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve opened that book up to my favorite parts just to read them over again
    Huffah!

  202. Dreamland
My name is Kelsey, this is a very hard choice for me but i would have to say my favorite book would have to be Dreamland. I makes you realize how careful you have to be you are in a relationship, you fall in love so fast, but you don’t truly know what its like. love is blinding. It also made me realize of your life could just up and change so fast. It was a prefect mix of a reality and a “dream.”

My favorite Sarah Dessen book is Dreamland because it is such a real story. You can feel exactly what Caitlin is feeling. I think the book is really powerful and can give girls who are getting abused the courage to just say ‘Stop!’

  208. My favourite Sarah Dessen is The Truth About Forever.
It was the first book of her’s that I read. I got it from the library one day, and totally forgot about it until a couple days before it was due. I decided to check it out, and once I started reading I could not stop! It was so very good that I found and read the rest of her books as soon as I possibly could.
I guess I like it because it’s simple, but at the same time really profound. There were so many wonderful snippets in that book that I really liked (I actually saved all of the quotes that I liked), and the story overall was great.
The Truth About Forever is definitely my favourite book.
